LUKÁŠ ŘEHŮŘEK

Pelikans Bučovice, baseball

In 2007, Lukáš was in the second grade of primary school. At the end of the year, coaches with several players from the Pelikans Bučovice team visited the school to introduce baseball to the children. Lukáš liked the game and started attending Pelikans' trainings. His first match was played in the spring of 2008 at the Dračí šleh tournament in Brno, where he achieved his first victory against the Draci 8 team. This was followed by three seasons during which he mostly played matches in the South Moravian Regional Junior League, and in 2010 in the older juniors category. The greatest success during this period was 12th place at the Z-cup 2009 international indoor tournament at the Brno Exhibition Center out of a total of 24 teams. He found his place in the infield during the matches, and in the older juniors category, he became a pitcher.

Already during the spring part of the 2008 season, once-a-week training sessions were not enough for him, so he started training individually. From spring to autumn, he spent about two hours a day on the baseball field in good weather, honing his baseball skills with significant assistance from his father, who also spent a lot of time with him in the stands of baseball stadiums watching league, cup, and international matches. In 2008, he first participated in a week-long baseball camp at the City Baseball Stadium in Brno, where he returned annually in the following years. In 2010, he headed to Prague for a week-long baseball camp in the Krč area, which was led by the renowned coach Richard Kania.

Hard work during daily individual training sessions and participation in summer baseball camps began to pay off in improved performance at bat and in the field. Unfortunately, there weren't many matches, mostly only within the South Moravian Regional Junior League in the spring part of the season. Lukáš wanted to play baseball, so he went where he had spent most of his time for three years in the stands - to the Brno Draci team. From November 2010, he started training with the Draci juniors and preparing for the 2011 season. He took another step on the long journey towards fulfilling his big dream of playing in the Extraliga for Draci.

The dream turned into reality on April 7, 2017, when Lukáš made his debut in the Extraliga for Draci against Kotlářka Prague. His first start as a catcher was on April 21, 2017, against Tempo Prague, and his first start at bat was on May 8, 2017, against Olympia Blansko. He recorded his first Extraliga hit on May 12, 2017, against Třebíč Nuclears, along with his first RBI. His first Extraliga home run was hit on May 4, 2019, against Technika Brno.

During his sports career, he became a thirteen-time champion of the Czech Republic and a three-time academic champion of the Czech Republic.
